Abby to God:
Dear God, please help me to be open to You and what You tell me today and from now on. Please quiet my judgment and doubt and uncertainty, and let me hear You. I know I often have asked You questions before and tried to hear the answer, but sometimes I didn't really listen.
I wanted to ask You about what I read in the Bible last night. I can't remember exactly what it said, but it was about divorce. Since my parents are divorced, I wanted to see what it said, so I did and was immediately repulsed. It sounded so judgmental! As if people who get divorced are "bad" in some way. I wanted to ask You, what was meant by it?
God to Abby:
The people in the Bible are from another time and place/society. In that time, things were done differently.
Abby:
Dear God, this is amazing! I realized that not only did the answer come from You, the question did as well!
God:
Abby:
God, is there anything particular that You would like to tell me?
God:
You worry about punctuation and spelling. As you sit here you think, "Oh, I have to be sure to capitalize 'You' when I write to God." You don't have to worry about that. Simply write to Me. I know your heart, Abby. I know that you have faith in Me.
Abby:
As I write these words, Your answers at first seem like my own writing, but then I look back and see how different it is. It's amazing!
Dear God, here is the exact part of the Bible I asked You about: (Matthew 5:31)
"It has been said, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.' But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery."
God, what is the meaning?
God:
My dearest Abby, must there be a meaning? You read the Bible as you would any other book. You do not embrace all of it. Why then do you seek to find meaning in all of it? I tell you there is no meaning there.
Abby:
God, forgive me, but I'm still having trouble believing this. I guess it just seems too easy. I want to let go so much! Especially after what You said to Gloria about when I let go. Please help me out.
God:
I will help you, Abby. And you will learn to trust yourself. To trust Me. After all, We are the same, You and I. You are part of Me.
