Matthew's Words for Jesus

Heavenpetal 28 November 20, 2000

Abby to God:

Dear God, in Matthew 11:20 and 11:23, it says that Jesus "denounced" the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, and that "it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you." How could Jesus denounce anyone? And what did he mean by "the day of judgment"?

God to Abby:

Abby, Jesus himself did not use the word "denounce". That is Matthew's word. The whole statement is from Matthew. It isn't wrong either. It is all Matthew's perception there.

Abby:

What did Jesus say?

God:

He said, "Woe to you who cannot see the miracles I perform as what they are. I weep for you! When my Father in Heaven opens the gates to Sodom, they will pass through, but you will not, for you will not even see the opening."

He was referring again to the people's doubts of themselves. They saw his miracles. They believed in his miracles, but they would not believe that this could come from them.
